Delaware Beach Dining: Restaurants like The Café on 26 in Ocean View and Café Azafran in Lewes and Rehoboth Beach

A Cuppa Joe—And a Whole Lot More

The new: The Café on 26 (84 Atlantic Ave., Ocean View, 539-2233, thecafeon26.com) blends the best of the coffeehouse trend with the casual bistro craze. Owners Maria Fraser and Cathy Berzins, who opened the café in 2010, initially planned to only serve breakfast and lunch, but quickly added dinner. “We were blessed with lines out the door,” Berzins says. “We didn’t realize dinner would be so popular.” Berzins, who suffers from celiac disease, has dedicated pans and counter space for gluten-free cooking. Sample the salmon with a potato crust or the prime rib.

The tried-and-true: Since opening in 2002, Café Azafran (109 Market St., Lewes, 644-4446, cafeazafran.com) has become the heartbeat of downtown Lewes. In 2010, owner Richard Steele and son Ryan debuted a Rehoboth location (18 Baltimore Ave., 227-8100) that offers table service throughout the day and a more extensive breakfast menu. At Lewes, guests order at the counter for breakfast and lunch, and there’s table service for dinner.
