Side trip to Queen Anne’s County for a Picnic and a Round of Golf

Plus St. Michaels, Tilghman Island and Rock Hall are worth a special trip.

If you want to head in another direction, check out the excellent Matapeake Park and Beach on Kent Island in Queen Anne’s County. Make a right off U.S. 50 at the last exit before the Bay Bridge and turn south on Md. 8. This public beach (with a small fee for entry) offers superb swimming and splendid views of the bridge and ships passing. Bring a picnic. Golfers might play the 36-hole Queenstown Harbor in Queenstown (a 2012 Environmental Leader in Golf winner), just off U.S. 301, or the 18-hole Blue Heron Golf Course, a few miles south of Matapeake Park on Md. 8.

More lovely places on the Shore, like St. Michael’s, Tilghman Island and Rock Hall, are worth a special trip or two. But for now, while we might end this journey here, yours is just beginning. Continue to explore and discover what residents know and love about Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
