Drivers pass from Bethany Beach into South Bethany without ever seeing the diffrence, yet South Beathany is a distinct municipality. Largely a summer town, its houses are mostly vacation homes, though the year-round population is growing—to about 600 people. There are about 1,400 properties, and fewer than 175 vacant lots remaining, and a year-round population of about 600 people. South Bethany is close to great shopping and dining in beach towns from Rehoboth to Fenwick Island, as well as art galleries on Del. 26. Outdoor recreational opportunities abound at places such as the Assawoman Wildlife Area and the bay, a beautiful place for boating of all kinds.
