Newport measures only 0.4 square miles, a good chunk of that is the Christina River. The small town is big on old-fashioned values, where mom-and-pop shops thrive, neighbors speak to each other, and a Little League game is always in play in spring. Skateboarding is huge with teens, as evidenced by the popularity of Newport Skate Park under the I95 viaduct. I95, Maryland Avenue and Del. 141 speed commuters to Newark, Wilmington, North Wilmington and New Castle. The largest employer in town, General Motors, was recently replaced by the Fisker company, which will build electric cars at the Boxwood Road assembly plant.
