Fenwick Island
Fenwick Island is Delaware’s most southeastern beach resort. Its year-round population is small, but in summer the resort town swells with families who enjoy stunning guarded beaches. Located between the Little Assawoman Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, Fenwick Island attracts lots of fishermen, who can be spotted casting for rockfish and flounder in the morning hours. Fenwick measures about a mile long and a half-mile wide, and almost every property west of Del. 1 is on the water. It is home to one of the coast’s most famous lighthouses, which has guided ship captains since the 19th century. Boaters enjoy the town’s location on Little Assawoman Bay. Areas west of town on Del. 65 such as Bayville and Williamsville have come to be known colloquially as Fenwick. The town offers good waterfront restaurants, fun shopping and traditional beach amusements such as mini golf. The Freeman Stage at Bayside is a local cultural attraction.
