What to Drink Now at Bellefonte Brewing Co.
We enjoyed the Herr Braümeister Wensell Hefe.
Bellefonte Brewing Co., Delaware’s newest nano-brewery—or brewery that produces batches of three barrels or smaller—fits well into the landscape of microbreweries in Delaware. Flights of four or six samples are a great introduction to the 12 beers on tap in the tap room. We tried several, but with spring just around the corner, it was time for a transitional beer, something refreshing and crisp.
After much deliberation, we gravitated toward the Herr Braümeister Wensell Hefe, a traditional wheat beer that smelled of cloves and had a refreshing, light banana note. The low hops contributed to its easy-to-drink quality, and at 5 percent ABV, it’s a manageable brew. Beers rotate regularly according to demand and the whims of brewers Craig Wensell and Joe “Joebob” Jacobs.
Not only does Bellefonte sell a vast range of tasty beers, it offers home brewers the supplies to make their own. Joining the Mug Club gets you a 20-oz. pour in a handcrafted mug for the 16-oz. price. For another $20, you get to keep the mug.
