Sometimes, the best finishing hole is such a challenge that you need to be tactical, where a strategy to play for bogey could mean the difference in winning and losing money for the day. Head pro Bob Crowther would agree when it comes to your average golfer at the 18th at Bayside. “You don’t beat it,” he says. “Play for 5, and be happy.”
With water that runs down the left side and wraps behind the green, there is plenty of hazard on this hole. The right side has tall fescue rough, and a bunker on the turn of the dogleg left makes driving the ball a premium. If you’re lucky enough to have a clear shot to the treacherous green, with more water front-right, it puts a premium on hitting a second shot the proper distance.
