Polio destroyed her ability to bear children, yet 1950s local TV pioneer Sally Starr made a career out of making kids happy. The tots pictured here seem eager to show Starr their stuffed versions of her horse, Pal, at a Wilmington Rotary event in 1959. Starr, who lives in New Jersey, ended her local country music radio show in 2011. In a recent interview, she told reporters, “I always made up my mind to forget what was bothering me because you (the fans) were waiting on the other side. Didn’t we have fun?” Yes, Sally, we did.
