Wilmington’s Poplar Street Pool

Kruse Pool was named for Edwina Kruse who fought for rights of African-American women.

Wilmington, 1939 Built as a public pool to serve the African-American community, Kruse Pool was located on the roof of 1325 Poplar St. in Wilmington. The pool was named for Edwina Kruse, an educator who was involved in social causes, particularly the rights of African-American women. These lifeguards stand at the ready.
