From the Editor: What It Means to Be a Best of Delaware Winner
In our July issue, we reflect on our state's best in restaurants, breweries, boutiques and more.

As I write this, I’m riding on the train back from New York City having just experienced the Broadway musical “Hamilton.” As we waited in line with the throngs of people anxious to pack Manhattan’s Richard Rodgers Theater to see the hip-hop interpretation of the life of Alexander Hamilton, it struck me that this was one of those rare occasions when my family and I were fortunate enough to collectively experience something that was, by nearly every account, the best.
This was particularly relevant because, as we were putting the finishing touches on the Best of Delaware issue of Delaware Today, there was a lot of reflecting upon what “the best” means when it comes to Delaware food, drink, services and shopping.
Each year we go to you, the readers, to let us know what your opinions are, and each year you reliably respond with impassioned votes about who you think deserves to be named a Best of Delaware winner.
It’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly. Fortunately, because Delaware is so packed with quality—as well as readers with discriminating tastes and strong opinions—we never find ourselves issuing the Best of Delaware equivalent of a participation trophy. Our Best of Delaware winners are just that—the best at what they do.
Our ultimate goal in offering this sprawling service to you is to bring to light those businesses and personalities that deserve recognition, as well as offer you a ready list of restaurants, bars, merchants and service providers to go to when you’re interested in exploring the exceptional offerings of the First State.
And if there’s a category we missed this year or that you think simply must be included, let us know. We’ll be back with the best again next July.
