Through Howard Pyle’s lens, his wife and children enjoy a day at the beach in the late nineteenth century.

Rehoboth Beach  |  1890   This photo of Anne Poole Pyle and her children was taken by her husband, Howard Pyle (1853-1911), the famous Wilmington artist, author and teacher. His parents were of Quaker descent. Pyle married Poole in a Quaker ceremony in the 1880s. The couple had several children. Howard Pyle was regarded as the foremost American illustrator of his time.
