Sanford School

A nonsectarian private college preparatory school with a strong sports tradition for students in pre-K through grade 12 (sanfordschool.org)

Opened as a family-oriented country boarding school and farm in 1930, Sanford became a day school in the 1970s.

Believing that “true success in life comes from pursuing one’s own worthwhile goals with enthusiasm, self-discipline, and commitment,” Sanford aims to develop the intellectual, creative and athletic talents of its students in a caring and supportive environment, according to the school’s Web site, to “teach students to live humanely within the Sanford community in order to prepare them to meet the demands and responsibilities of the future in the broader world.”

Thirty percent of the student body receives need-based financial aid.

Did you know: Sanford is the first and only school in Delaware history to win both girls and boys basketball state championships two years in a row (2010, 2011).
