Taverna’s coal-burning pizza oven turns out another pie.

The latest from the good people who brought you Eclipse Bistro and Redfire Grill Steakhouse: Taverna, a warm, welcoming place that charms with rustic brick walls, paneling of reclaimed barn siding and an open kitchen that beautifully displays a coal-burning pizza oven. Carl Georigi’s Platinum Dining Group has scored another winner, using many of the elements that made Capers & Lemons an instant classic: good Italian food that includes pasta dishes, meats such as braised pork shank and chicken cacciatore, seafood and, those pizzas. “It was time,” Georigi says. “I’ve had my eye on Newark for a couple years.” On a Main Street that offers more good food than ever, Taverna stands out.
