The Apron Bazaar

The People’s Church, Dover, 1952

This was a huge bazaar that the whole church had,” says Cynthia Hotchkiss of the People’s Church of Dover. Despite the name, the aprons—which women sewed then sold—were just a small part of the event that ended in the early 1960s. Pictured from right to left are Hildred Heather, Mattie Hopkins, Patricia Heather, Edna Willis and Lille Teat. The gentleman in the center is “Chef” and Gov. Elbert Carvel.
