Local Flavor and Flair Make Striper Bites in Lewes a Community Favorite

Decked out with maritime accessories and a matching menu, this Lewes institution is an instant favorite for newcomers and an obvious go-to for locals.

Striper Bites
From the ceiling hang an old wooden rowing shell and a canoe. The bow of an old dinghy protrudes from a wall. Other walls are adorned with trophies of billfish. And friends keep giving chef-owner Matt DiSabatino more boats and things to decorate his restaurant, which feels like a vintage life-saving service station. DiSabatino may have set out to create a comfortable place that fits with Lewes’ maritime past, but it’s the customers who give it personality, he says. Since 2001, they have gone there for nachos, wings and the signature Striper Bites Club—blackened mahimahi with applewood-smoked bacon and Caesar dressing served on a ciabatta, but they have gone there also for the fun, laid back vibe. 107 Savannah Road, Lewes, 645-4657, striperbites.com
