Kent County’s Roma Restaurant is the Reigning Italian King
Since 1973, the family-owned and –operated restaurant has churned out the best Italian fare Dover has to offer.
In 1973 immigrant Giuseppe Garramone heard that the old Dairyville ice cream stand in Dover was up for sale. The nearby Dover Air Force Base was humming. The Blue Hen Mall was jumping. And Dover had never seen good Italian food. So Giuseppe opened a pizza shop, but it wasn’t long before he started adding pasta and meat dishes to the menu, some of which, like the veal saltimbocca, became favorites with local diners. Giuseppe’s son, Joe, took over in 2000, after a long apprenticeship under his dad and other talented chefs who had worked there over the years, then added his own touch, mostly new seafood dishes. After 40 years of consistent quality, Roma remains the primo Italian restaurant in Kent. Says Joe, “Pride goes into every dish that comes out of that kitchen.” 3 President Drive, Dover, 678-1041, romadover.com
