This dazzling natural area, with its sprawling 16,000 acres of tidal saltmarsh and pristine freshwater pools, plays friendly host to countless migratory waterfowl, bald eagles, shorebirds and other wildlife. Highlights for birdwatchers include the arrival of snow geese in winter, and the migrating red knots, ruddy turnstones and other shorebirds in spring and late summer. A stop at the visitors center is an educational treat.
