Wilmington Montessori School fosters independence, kindness, self-discipline and a passion for learning in students ages 1 through 12. Based on Maria Montessori’s teaching methods, WMS awakens the spirit and imagination, equipping children with the academic knowledge, creativity and open-mindedness needed to become tomorrow’s leaders. Classrooms offer safe, nurturing environments that encourage physical, emotional, intellectual and social growth. Technology is integrated into the curricula, with a 1:1 iPad program in grades 4-6 and additional iPads available for younger elementary students. The spacious facility contains a library and spaces dedicated to the visual and performing arts, foreign language, sports and child-care, along with two new Maker Studios, in which early childhood students can explore and create using the concepts of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). An elementary Maker Studio will open during winter 2014-15. Outside, the 25-acre campus provides a safe environment for recreation in its trails, streams, play areas and sports field. WMS values each child as an individual. Respect for oneself, others and the environment is stressed at all levels. All of this occurs in child-centered classrooms, giving children the freedom to grow within a structured environment.
