Since 1964, Wilmington Montessori School has remained committed to Dr. Maria Montessori’s evidence-based educational methods developed more than a century ago. Today those same core principles – engaging children in an environment of discovery, critical thinking and problem-solving to create passionate learners – continue to drive WMS as we educate children ages 12 months through eighth grade.
Our spacious facilities, beautiful 25-acre campus and close-knit community provide a safe, inclusive environment for joyful discovery and hands-on learning. Teachers know each student as an individual and focus on the development of the whole child, including academic, social and personal growth.
The goal of a WMS education is to prepare students for success in their next educational ventures and, ultimately, in life. While technology did not exist when Dr. Montessori was alive, it has become an integral part of our curriculum at the elementary level. At WMS, technology is not a substitute for instruction from teachers and hands-on work. Instead, it is integrated into all parts of the curriculum, used for creative projects, research and discovery, communication, and more. Computer labs have become a thing of the past thanks to WMS’s enhanced wireless network, laptops and iPads.
Likewise, the concept of S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education has only emerged during the past decade, but the integration of these areas of the curriculum aligns perfectly with the Montessori philosophy. S.T.E.A.M education starts in the Toddler Program. WMS is home to three Maker Studios in which students use age-appropriate materials discover, build, investigate, create, design and learn in a safe environment.
We hope that you will take the time to visit us and find out how WMS will help your child become a capable, compassionate and responsible citizen of the world. Experience the WMS difference.
