Home Grown Café teams with Lancaster Farm Fresh, through its wholesale operations and the its community-supported agriculture program, which means the restaurant receives weekly deliveries of the farm’s best seasonal crops. That’s good news for diners, who see the results in fresh-tasting daily specials. Home Grown also sources local livestock, including local, grass-fed and pastured cows, and local chickens. Owners Eric and Sasha Aber have found goodies at the Newark Natural Foods farmers market, and have bought from local mushroom foragers.
Though it’s more focused on fresh, local and, often, organic produce than calorie-counting dishes, Home Grown Café and Gourmet To Go is still the place to get grilled zucchini with your roasted organic tempeh. Vegan chili is great for cold weather, and in the summer, there’s fresh gazpacho, blended with tomatoes and summer veggies. Produce and meats come from local purveyors. Critic K.C. Keeler goes for the balsamic glazed chicken.
