The key to HAC’s success is its commitment to families. There’s child care on site, a gigantic aqua area with a water park, lap pool, adult whirlpool and outdoor pool. There are treadmills, bikes and cross trainers, a free weight area, six circuits of strength training equipment and a variety of classes. But the owners didn’t just throw a bone to kids. They created a fun space that includes a large gym, martial arts studio, Kids Maze and more. That said, the center is perfectly fine for single adults, too.
The Hockessin Athletic Club has it all: a waterpark, lap pool, warm water pool, adult whirlpool, outdoor swimming pool and more. Dads like critic Lyman Chen can use treadmills, recumbent bikes, cross trainers and weights while their kids enjoy various athletic programs. There’s a fitness center for women, weight-loss programs, personal trainers, massages and about 120 classes a week. The veggie burgers at the café are pretty good, too. (The menu lists calorie counts. You can’t cheat.)
