From the Creative Directors of Delaware Bride
One of the disadvantages of working on a bridal magazine is seeing all the new and creative ideas for a bride and her wedding that come out every season. I say disadvantage because I’m always seeing some gown or pair of brightly colored shoes that I would have loved to wear at my wedding six years ago. For example, I wish I had worn a fascinator, a hair accessory with feathers, flowers or jeweled pieces that sometimes has a piece of Russian netting covering part of the face (see page 34). If you do an Internet search for images of fascinators, you will be amazed at what is out there. A lot of the Delaware bridal boutiques have wonderful selections of hair accessories, and a fascinator is a great way to make traditional more fascinating—pun intended—and bring attention to the bride’s beautiful face. — Kelly Carter
When you read this I will most likely be getting married or on my honeymoon. As I write, I look at the calendar and see that the big day, October 5, is less then two months away. So far I’ve kept my cool. It’s actually been a lot of fun. My fiance and I recently had our engagement session with our photographer, Maria DeForrest. And what I would love for all brides to take away from their wedding experience is to make it all about you! My fiance is a huge comic book fan, I love horror movies, and we both love to take our dog on hikes. So why not make the engagement session unique by combining all those things in one magical day, a timeline of what a typical Saturday may be for us? We start out at The Comic Book Shop on Marsh Road, grab our picnic basket and our dog, then find a quiet spot to read at Brandywine Creek State Park and enjoy the scenery. But I don’t think any of our friends and family expected my love of horror movies to creep into the scene. Shortly after we settled into our picnic, we were attacked by some
zombified members of our bridal party. Everyone got into it, and it made for a really relaxing and memorable experience. Now that the wedding is so close, I’ve been asking newlyweds I meet, “What advice would you give me now that there is less than two months to go?” The most common answer is, “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” So that has been my mantra for the past few weeks—though I did start to worry the other day. What about the big stuff? What if it snows in October again? What if a tornado hits again? Or—my worst fear—what if I pass out while walking down the aisle? Luckily I got the inside scoop right before my wedding from “If Something Can Go Wrong…” on page 43. I can’t wait until the next issue, when I can tell you all about my Big Day. —Louise Bolin
