Christine A. Cannon
Hockessin
Executive Director, Arsht-Cannon Fund at the Delaware Community Foundation

After retiring as a nursing professor at the University of Delaware, Cannon saw an opportunity to find good investments for Delaware’s families. Her fund partners with Hispanic-serving nonprofit organizations to fund programs that provide educational opportunities, access to health care and-or support Latino youth. A member of the board of the National Council of La Raza, the largest Hispanic advocacy and civil rights organization in the United States, she is part of its effort to reform immigration policy, which she hopes will further help those on the path to citizenship. The reward? Among other things, the Latin American Community Center’s 2012 Hispanic Community Hero Award for determination and persistence in advocating for Hispanic Delawareans.
