The Porch Chops formed in May of 1988 at a gig on musician Steve Gregg's porch in West Chester, Pa. The name was chosen spontaneously that day and Brad Riesau (guitar/harmonica/vocals), Butch Zito (mandolin/guitar/vocals), and Tom Melvin (banjo/guitar/vocals) played their first public set of acoustic, bluegrass and roots rock influenced music. Within days they began playing weekly gigs at the Red Snapper Restaurant in North Wilmington and area venues with bassist Craig Noland and percussionist Steve Gregg. In short order, they began gigging 2-3 nights a month at the East End Cafe on Main Street becoming something of a fixture there for the next 18 years with drummer "El Tempo" (aka D. Batteria) on board. Over the years, members of the band have included guitarist/singers Keith Moss (This Year's Girl), Mr. Stevie Hobson (Sin City Band) and the late, versatile multi-instrumentalist and former owner of Wilmington's Crossroads Cafe, Kurt Chiappardi. The Porch Chops dedicate this special evening to Kurt's memory with all of the above members in attendance.
