Robert Jackson will be at Somerville Manning Gallery on Saturday, November 3rd, 2012, from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm, to sign copies of his new book, Robert C. Jackson: Paintings, by Philip Eliasoph. An exhibition of his recent work will be on display from Friday, November 2nd, through December 8th, 2012.
Jackson’s beautifully illustrated book, his first monograph, includes more than 130 images of his paintings with details, photographs of the artist at work, sketchbook reproductions, and an interview with the artist himself. The author proclaims, “The paintings we are about to examine are inescapably a bundle of contradictions, satirical complexities, and witty subterfuge. Essentially, Jackson is a uniquely self-realized painter. His feisty independence is fortified with healthy dosages of non-conforming eccentricity, with a small touch of screwball nuttiness.”
The accompanying exhibition will feature some of Jackson’s newest works, such as Gamble Everything For Love, which literally drips with rich color splashed across his trademark crates. The bright red covers all but the most joyful and sensual words, unifying them into a singular declaration of passion, while the blank papers pinned to the wood signify the unspoken, sometimes subconscious, feelings unique to each viewer.
