The Rehoboth Beach Film Society and the Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation are proud to present The Metropolitan Opera’s live broadcast of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s lyrical opera, EUGENE ONEGIN on Saturday, April 22, 12:55 pm at Cape Henlopen High School Theater.
Anna Netrebko reprises one of her most celebrated roles as Tatiana, the naive heroine of Tchaikovsky’s opera. She portrays the young girl who grows from a sentimental adolescent into a complete woman in one of the operatic stage’s most convincing character developments. Adapted from Alexander Pushkin’s timeless novel of the same name, this stirring production depicts a bored aristocrat caught between convention and tedium who rejects Tatiana’s love until it’s too late. Debra Wagner’s staging brings this productions to life. Set in the late 19th century, the timeless rituals of Russian society and the glittering aristocracy of St. Petersburg are depicted. Peter Mattei stars as the title character, Elena Maximova as Tatiana’s sister Olga and Štefan Kocán as Prince Gremin. Alexey Dolgov sings the role of Lenski, Onegin’s friend-turned-rival. The renowned Robin Ticciati, Music Director of Glyndebourne Festival Opera, conducts. There will be two intermissions. [2017, Sung in Russian with subtitles, Runtime: 3 hours 38 minutes]
