Draper Experiment by
Chris Andricola and Jake Foster

October 4 - November 30, 2019

Opening Reception: Friday, October 4
5 - 9 PM during Art Loop

In the spirit of collaboration and experimentation, artists Chris Andricola and Jake Foster have teamed up to transform the gallery space with domestic objects and props, using their installations, performances, and photography as a means of critiquing modern life. Their work explores the various ways mass media, communication, and consumerist lifestyles disconnect social ties, resulting in a barren disconnection with humanity, nature, and repressed sexuality.

Andricola’s photography and graphic design work reveals his fascination with 1950s and 1960s American pop culture. His compositions tend to be narrative and cinematic, while Foster’s current body of work reinterprets his family’s photographs into contemporary paintings that analyze the American condition and question the ability to “remember.” Desiring to create a retro-futurist surreal world, their installation references typical familial rooms, classic American culture, kitsch, and excessive consumerism. By subverting the societal norms of traditional American culture, Andricola and Foster disrupt domestic realities and space, and create parodies of a playful dystopia. Visitors are invited to participate in the first Friday Art Loop on October 4 to interact with the artists and props and be photographed in the exhibition. The artists will then install the photos in the gallery as part of the exhibition’s interactive component.

Christopher Andricola earned a BFA in Studio Art from Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ. He regularly exhibits his photography at local galleries including the Perkins Center for the Arts and the Markeim Art Center. Chris has worked with notable advertising agencies such as Red Tettemer O'Connell + Partners in Philadelphia, PA.

Jacob Foster is an MFA candidate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He earned a BA in Art from Rutgers University Camden in 2017, where he was awarded two undergraduate research grants, the Stedman Gallery Purchase Award, and the John J. Gianotti Fine Arts award. His work has been curated by the Head of Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Art and by the Director of Exhibitions at Tyler School of Art. In September 2018, The Noyes Museum of Art at Stockton University hosted a solo exhibition of his work.
