Lucinda Williams’ musical style conjures up some compelling descriptions: raw, melodic, authentic, pleasing. These all apply and more to the singer-songwriter’s high energy concert performances and capability of offering a guided tour of life’s dark clouds and honing in on the silver lining with elegance.

Her greatest successes started with the release of a song later recorded by Mary Chapin Carpenter, "Passionate Kisses", which garnered Williams her first Grammy Award for Best Country Song.

The long-awaited release, Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, went gold and earned Williams an additional Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album. Emmylou Harris said of Williams, "She is an example of the best of what country at least says it is, but, for some reason, she's completely out of the loop and I feel strongly that that's country music's loss."
