Bootless Stageworks is excited to present the Tri-State area premiere of Jerry Springer: The Opera this October at the intimate OperaDelaware black box theater. Based on the popular television show, The Jerry Springer Show, the original work created by Richard Thomas and Stewart Lee ain’t your grandmom’s opera. Jerry Springer is the host of the world's most notorious chat show. His guests are the usual band of social misfits - and boy, can they sing! When Jerry is shot at the climax of one particularly seedy edition of his show, the Devil seizes the opportunity and forces Jerry to present his show in Hell in order to solve the Devil's problems. The show takes the First Amendment and runs with it; it is best enjoyed by those that love theater, free speech, and poking fun at modern society.
For this production, Jerry Springer will be played by Robert Bove, a resident of Townsend, Delaware, and this year’s winner of the John DeBella Comedy Contest. Robert recently had the pleasure of performing as an opening act for Christopher Titus at the Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia. The cast is comprised of veteran and emerging opera performers, including Michael Popovsky (Lancaster, PA), Kimberly Christie (Baltimore, MD), Cynthia Ballentine (Boothwyn, PA), Nichalas Parker (Philadelphia, PA) and Jessica Graae (Wilmington, DE). The work is fully staged under the direction of Rosanne DellAversano and accompanied by an eight-piece orchestra conducted by James W. Fuerst.
“Jerry Springer: The Opera” opens October 12 at 8:00pm at Opera Delaware Studios in Wilmington, DE. The theater is located conveniently near the Wilmington Amtrak station. Plenty of free, well-lit parking is available. The theater is ADA accessible. The Box Office opens 30 minutes before curtain time. Due to the subject matter of the show, no one under the age of 16 will be admitted without parent or guardian.
