The Rehoboth Beach Film Society, Cheer Center at Longneck, and BBC Worldwide are sponsoring a free screening of the film “37 Days” on Wednesday, August 6 from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM in the auditorium at the Cheer Center at Long Neck, 26089 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.
This BBC Worldwide distributed film is part of a series of films to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One. “37 Days” presents a complex behind-closed-doors account of the final weeks before the war. Filled with a star studded British cast, this film is only available in the US during the month of August, so don’t miss it!
“37 Days” is a historical drama that is set in the five weeks between the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and the start of World War One. Brilliantly written and portrayed, it shows the process by which the European elite took the world to war. The film shifts from the cabinet rooms of Europe where statesmen and generals are making decisions that will alter the course of history to the office of a young Scottish clerk or a lowly office worker in Berlin.
“’37 Days’ is fabulous – a forensic political thriller but still very human, as much about the people involved as the momentous events themselves. It’s convincingly written and has loads of great performances but Ian McDiarmid as Grey stands out. And the dates flicking past – 32 days to war, 30 days to war, 28 days to war – give the whole thing a sense of urgency and doom. Like an advent calendar, but the last window is a window on to hell …..” says Sam Wollaston of “The Guardian.” [Great Britain, 2014, Runtime: 162 min, Not Rated]
This event is free to the public. Pre-registration is required due to limited seating. You can register online by visiting our website at www.rehobothfilm.com and clicking the Special Events link. Or you can register in person at Cheer Center at Long Neck by Monday, August 4.
