This event occurs daily, every weekday.
Family Story of Migration, an exhibition of paintings by Yolanda Chetwynd, will be on view in the Mezzanine Gallery from September 1-29. An opening reception to meet the artist will be held on Friday, September 8 from 5-7 p.m.
Chetwynd received the 2017 Masters Fellowship in Painting. For this exhibition, she created a series of 10 paintings that tell the story of her husband’s family saga of migration from Pakistan to India after the Partition of India in 1947. Instead of canvas, each painting is done on a shaped wooden panel that frames a main scene. Some of the panels have dome-shaped tops, a reference to the diversity of architectural styles. The vibrantly colored paintings are full of personal symbolism and references to the family’s life in India.
The Mezzanine Gallery, open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is located in the Carvel State Office Building, 820 N. French Street, Wilmington.
