Think outside the box in a two-session workshop with eco-artist and New York sculptor Susan Benarcik in a "Make & Take" workshop where you design and fabricate your own small scale 3-D sculpture. Learn to incorporate harvested and found materials from your garden and green spaces with curious items from your drawers, tool sheds, and recycle bins. Bring wire clippers, scissors, garden shears, and materials that lend themselves to repurposing and sharing. Some natural materials provided. The work of artist Susan Benarcik is deeply rooted in horticulture and design: her concern for the environment is made evident in her 3-dimensional sculptural installations. Her compositions provoke the viewer to observe and reflect on human experiences including individual, social, and environmental. Part printmaker and part sculptor, Benarcik takes elemental forms of the natural and man-made world into her studio and carefully transforms them by stacking, stringing, layering, knotting, and weaving them into dimensional sculpture for public and private spaces. In the hands of this artist, simple materials become contemplative compositions for interior and exterior application that are highly tactile and evocative. They evidence a fondness and respect for the natural world, delight and bring equilibrium to our senses by allowing the natural world become part of our daily cognitive experience.
