Colonel Carla Riner presently serves as the Commander of the 166th Airlift Wing in New Castle, Delaware. She previously served as the Special Assistant to the Assistant Adjutant General for Air at West Virginia Air National Guard Headquarters, Charleston, West Virginia from January 2018 until February 2019. Before that tenure, she was the 130th Maintenance Group Commander from October 2015 until January 2018. She was charged with the C-130 mission to provide maintenance support world-wide operations of the 130th Airlift Wing. She also assists Wing leadership in making strategy-driven, capabilities-based decisions. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Col Riner started her Air Force career as a pilot select at the 167th Airlift Wing in Martinsburg, West Virginia in 1993. After Undergraduate Pilot Training at Vance AFB in 1997, she served as a C-130 pilot in tactical airlift operations throughout the world, including flying in various contingencies including Operations Joint Forge, Coronet Oak, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom. She also served as the Officer in Charge of the Presidential move from the National Capital Region to Dallas, Texas for President George W. Bush’s administrative effects.
