CAMERAS ETC. CELEBRATES its 35th ANNIVERSARY!
When Jim Cycyk opened the Wilmington Cameras Etc. store in 1977, disco was all the craze and millions were flocking to see the first “Star Wars” movie. Jim entered an already crowded marketplace of 11 camera stores because he believed that Cameras Etc. could offer better service, better photographic knowledge with pricing that was still competitive.
Thirty five years later, Cameras Etc. is still following that original philosophy. They have become Delaware’s largest independent full service camera store, serving the amateur and professional photographer as well as the needs of our corporate, educational, governmental and law enforcement customers.
From their humble grand opening in a 600 square foot store with mostly empty shelves, Cameras Etc.’s two locations on North Market St. in Wilmington and Main St. in Newark, now occupy 6200 square feet of space filled with inventory.
During these 35 years, the photographic industry has gone through some amazing changes due to the shift from film to digital imaging which has affected all aspects of camera equipment, lighting, photographic techniques and artistic sensibilities
Cameras Etc. was the first photo store in Delaware to have an on-site color processing lab, the first to sell camcorders, the first store of any kind to sell digital cameras in Delaware and the first camera store in the state to have ever displayed and sold digital printers, High Definition TV sets, DVD players …the list goes on to this day…..so even though Cameras Etc. is in its 35th year, they will always be on the cutting edge of products and services that help people enjoy taking and preserving pictures.
One of the happy end results of this history is the sense of community that has been created at Cameras Etc. Long time and new customers are comfortable coming in with any questions that they may have about their equipment with the added benefit of exploring purchasing options in a hands on setting. Through all these years, Cameras Etc. has been committed to supporting the photographic community by providing excellence in equipment choice, service and advice. Any customer can expect a detailed tutorial explaining their new purchase.
The staff at Cameras Etc. has a diverse resume with an impressive range of photographic knowledge. There are two Nikon Professional Digital specialists, three Photo Marketing Association Certified Photographic Consultants with a combined 200 years of experience.
Besides photo equipment, Cameras Etc. offers studio lighting, repairs, darkroom supplies, photo albums and frames, self-service digital printing, passport photos, digital restoration, scanning, conversion of photos to digital files, memory card recovery and many other services.
