“MasterChef” Jennifer Behm Launches Pink Martini Catering in Wilmington

What’s cookin’? Jennifer Behm creates a recipe for success after her win on “MasterChef”

What’s cookin’ for this top cook? Jennifer Behm creates a delicious recipe for success in Delaware after her win on “MasterChef.”

Life has been a whirlwind for Jennifer Behm since she won the title of “MasterChef” during the second season of the popular Fox reality TV series. The celebrity and the half million dollar prize that came with that title have created opportunities for the former Realtor, but it’s Behm’s energy and drive that are pushing her toward further success.

“You would think opportunities would come immediately, but you have to go out and take it yourself,” Behm says. “(Winning ‘MasterChef’) does open up doors, but you have to make the initial push.”

And Behm packs plenty of push. Since the win in 2011, she started Wilmington-based Pink Martini Catering, she’s done countless cooking demos and public speaking gigs, judged cooking contests, and she’s hoping to soon open a restaurant. Behm is also the celebrity spokeswoman for Sous Vide, a cooking appliance company.

As if that’s not enough, she will travel to India where she will cook in three cities as part of a supper club. Another unique undertaking is Behm’s work with team building that utilizes food. “There’s a lot of blindfolding, a lot of knives involved,” she says, letting loose with her trademark laugh. “It can get interesting. At the end, the reward is you get to eat your product.”

Despite her celebrity status, Behm is not swamped by autograph seekers. “I get recognized in weird places,” she says. “I can usually go without being noticed but my laugh and my smile are two things that give me away.”

While she didn’t get a sweet cookbook deal like other MasterChef winners, Behm has been creating recipes for a cookbook that she hopes to publish by Christmas of 2014. In the meantime, she and hubby Julio Lazzarini are expecting their first child in early June. “We are expanding our family,” Behm explains. “We started with a dog. Now we have two new puppies and a daughter on the way.”
