First State CPAs: Accredited by the Better Business Bureau

Networking with fellow BBB-accredited businesses has provided First State CPAs with a greater chance to take an active role in the market and community.

First State CPAs believes that a good accounting firm should do more than provide tax services once a year. It sets itself apart from the competition by providing customized client services, technology and integrated solutions that support specific business needs throughout the year.

“We have very few clients that just drop off their taxes at the end of the year,” says Kathleen Sarchett, partner in the Dover firm that boasts 50-plus years of accounting experience.

Sarchett knows that trust is vital to forming good business relationships. That’s why she decided to join the Better Business Bureau last year. “It was just proving in one more way that we hold ourselves to a higher standard of advertising and customer service,” she says.

The firm is already realizing the benefits of accreditation. Sarchett says she feels more confident networking with fellow members.  “Everyone who is involved is a little more committed to being ethical so that when you do make a connection then you can feel confident that somebody that you refer to that firm will be treated well,” she says.

Sarchett sees First State taking a more active role in BBB leadership and is marketing its accreditation to encourage clients to join. The firm has a link to its BBB page on its website, displays the logo on all its marketing pieces and hands out the organization’s Wise Giving Guide to those clients making charitable contributions.

“That’s a way for them to stand out from the competition, if they’re BBB accredited and they use it,” she says. “If you make a point of educating your clients that you’re accredited of the BBB and why that should matter, then you’ll benefit from it.”
