Medifast: Delaware Weight Loss Programs

Medifast, which launched in 1980, offers meal replacements and a dedicated approach: You eat every two to three hours and follow the 5 & 1 Plan. Each day, you have five Medifast meals—eggs, pancakes, stews, soup, or shakes—and a Lean & Green—5 to 7 ounces of lean protein and three vegetable servings that you make (and buy) yourself.

Purchasing options include a four-week package for $315 and a two-week supply for $162.50. You can also buy the products a la carte online, at the Medifast Weight Control Center at Brandywine Market Square, and via distributors, such as Reflections, a medical spa in Brandywine Hundred.

The plan may require an appetite adjustment, says Dr. Susan Kirchdoerffer, owner of Reflections. Those who like to sink their teeth into a meal may feel unsatisfied with so many liquids and soft foods.

The company offers free online support tools, including a chat room. Prefer a personal approach? Visit the Medifast Weight Control Center on Concord Pike.

“The support from the counselors … is encouraging and non-judgmental,” says Donna Fortunato of Glen Mills, Pa., who signed up when the center opened and lost 40 pounds. The center offers accountability, says manager Aaron Dixey, who, thanks to Medifast, lost the 20 pounds he gained after moving from England to America.

Center prices start at $400 for the full-service program, which includes a consultation and counseling. Clients pay about $80 a week for products. (medifastnow.com)
