This year's Delaware Shakespeare Festival performances will take place in the haunted halls of Rockwood Mansion in Wilmington.

Delaware Shakespeare Festival has returned to a world of specters and spirits with 10 performances of “Shakespeare/Poe: A Night of Readings from the Dark Side,” its annual visit with masters of the macabre in three remarkable venues around New Castle County. The weird sisters of Macbeth will meet again and the raven will certainly come knocking on the chamber door, but this year’s “Shakespeare/Poe” will also offer readings from two genuinely gothic voices, Ann Radcliffe and Mary Shelley.

Once again, DSF actors will be joined by a live cellist as they read selections from plays, poems and short stories. Performances will take place in the haunted halls of Rockwood Mansion in Wilmington, in the Colonial-era Stone Stable in Historic Odessa, and amid the grandeur of the Read House and Gardens in Old New Castle. Due to space limitations inside these historic properties, only 30 tickets will be sold for each performance. Four additional performances have been added this year, after most shows sold out early last season.

Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. Fridays, Oct. 16 and 23, in the Stone Stable; at 6 p.m. and at 8 p.m. (two shows) Saturdays, Oct. 17 and 24, at the Read House; at 6 p.m. and at 8 p.m. (two shows) Sundays, Oct. 18 and 25, at Rockwood Mansion. Tickets are $18.50 and can be purchased on the Delaware Shakespeare Festival website at www.delshakes.org.

Guests can choose to add a mini-tour of the Read House for an additional $2. On Oct. 24, make your spooky night in New Castle complete by taking the New Castle Historical Society’s Hauntings in History Walking Tour following the 6 p.m. performance. Tours are available at 7:30 p.m. and at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at www.newcastlehistory.org/events.html.
