Worth a Shot

If you enjoyed the feature of Kathleen Buckalew’s photography in the June issue, “The Face of Farming,” you can meet her Friday night at the Delaware Division of the Arts Mezzanine Gallery, when she opens a solo show. Though the magazine story focused on her efforts to document local farmers, Buckalew is a photographer of astonishing ability and breadth. She shoots water, still lifes and landscapes—often at Hagley Museum, where she works—with equal grace. Her images will take your breath away. The gallery is in the Carvel State Office Building, 820 N. French St., Wilmington. The reception is 5 p.m.-8 p.m. If you miss the reception, you can see Buckalew’s work until June 24. Or visit buckalewphotography.com.

Last-Chance Warhol

Also, photo aficionados, if you’ve missed “Andy Warhol: Behind the Camera,” you have until Sunday to visit UD’s Old College Gallery. If you think of Warhol as the archetypal pop artist, this exhibition reveals him to also be a remarkable photographer. He left behind nearly 60,000 images when he died almost 25 years ago. They may not have broken new ground, but the 60 at UD are a window into his soul. Warhol’s association with Delaware is mainly through his friendship with painter Jamie Wyeth. Yet UD received 150 of Warhol’s photos through the Andy Warhol Photographic Legacy Program. “Behind the Camera” is the first public exhibit of the photos. See it while you can.
