DCAD Partners with Delaware Museum of Natural History

Art Gets Wild

The state's only professional school of art and design and the state's only museum of natural history have team up for “Nature’s Bounty: Nature-Inspired Art,” a unique, curated exhibition showcasing work inspired by the natural world. The Delaware College of Art and Design will display work by students in a variety of media beginning March 7 at the Delaware Museum of Natural History in Wilmington. Ranging from representational works to the abstract, the art represents a wide range of technique from students enrolled in DCAD's six majors of study: animation, fine arts, graphic design, illustration, interior design and photography. The students—and a few DCAD alumni—submitted more than 60 works for consideration. A jury of artists and representatives from local cultural institutions selected 32 from that pool for inclusion in the exhibition. “Nature’s Bounty: Nature-Inspired Art” will be on display at the museum until April 19. 658-9111, delmnh.org

The Delaware Art Museum’s “FiberNext” showcases 12 regional fiber artists as part of its Outlooks Exhibition series. Twenty pieces illustrate today's most ingenious approaches to fiber-based materials, pieces that combine classic textile traditions with contemporary art and design to create multi-dimensional works of art. The artists have branched out to incorporate an eclectic array of materials and techniques, including metal, digital embroidery, plastic, paper, clay, photography, wood and recycled materials. Their works also encompass a range of concepts such as community, gender, and upcycling. Work includes a multi-colored wearable sweater coat, an altarpiece with mysterious figures, and drawings made of Saran Wrap and pins. See them until April 13. 571-9590, delart.org
