Enjoy an Evening of Art at the University & Whist Club

Visit the University & Whist Club on June 2 from 6–8 p.m. to meet famed local artist C. Phillip Wikoff and sculptress Olga Nielsen during “Wikoff at The Whist—An Evening of Art.” Wikoff will sign numbered, limited-edition prints of two of his works, originally commissioned by the University & Whist Club of the historic Tilton Mansion: “The Arrival,” a winter scene, and The Beech Tree,” a springtime scene.

Wikoff studied painting and ceramics at Iowa Wesleyan College, and fine art and graphics at the University of Delaware. He has exhibited at the Delaware Art Museum. He is associate member of the American Watercolor Society and a member of the Philadelphia Art Alliance. He was represented in the Society of Illustrators 26th Annual Show and has won several awards, including New Castle County Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year and The Tilton Award.

During the evening, Olga Nielsen will offer a firsthand look at the making of a bronze bust via a video presentation narrated by Nielsen herself. See the step-by-step process of her creating the Dr. James Tilton bronze bust. Nielsen was born in Russia and attended the Moscow School of Fine Arts. She spent the summer of 1981 studying art in Italy and in 2005 went back to school to study sculpture at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. In 2015, Nielsen was awarded Signature Status with the Portrait Society of America. Nielsen also teaches portrait and figure drawing instructor at the Delaware College of Art and Design.

The event is part of a monthly series called Arts-n-Appetizers to feature various artists in an informal setting. The series is intended to offer an up-close-and-personal experience with an art form that might have otherwise been intimidating in a more formal setting.
