Delaware Art Museum Redesigns Fusco Great Hall

It’s an entrance like no other. Come see it for yourself.

The Delaware Art Museum has reinstalled the Fusco Great Hall, the museum’s grand entrance lobby. Thanks to the support of a donor, the beautifully redesigned space displays six works of art, including permanent collection objects that have not been exhibited in years and works that are too large to be on view regularly in the permanent collection galleries.

The paintings on display represent the museum’s core collections—Pre-Raphaelite Art, 19th– and 20th-century American Art, Contemporary Art, and Illustration—and include works by Larry Holmes, Howard Pyle, Aelfred Fahey, John Sloan, Jane Peterson, and James Valerio. Inspiring quotes from artists line the walls next to the works of art now on display.

The reinstallation was spurred by the museum’s initiative to make its public spaces more engaging for visitors of all ages. Working with exhibition designer Keith Ragone, a team of museum staff members transformed Fusco Hall with bold wall colors, modern seating, and a broad range of art that encourages visitors to linger and learn.

The Fusco Hall project follows the major reinstallations of the contemporary and 19th-century art galleries completed over the past two years. With support from the Pollyanna Foundation, Kids’ Corner, the museum’s interactive children’s gallery, will be redesigned later this year. The museum is also working on a plan to put the entire collection online. About 4,000 works are currently available at www.delart.org.

“I am excited that we are using the museum’s entrance space to showcase our art in new ways,” says Heather Campbell Coyle, Curator of American Art at the Delaware Art Museum. “The reinstallation allows for an introduction to the museum’s unique collections as soon as people step through the doors. I hope that first-time visitors are intrigued and energized by this initial glimpse of the collection and that our regulars see some old favorites in a new light.” Check it out. www.delart.org
