“Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” to Open at the Everett Theatre

The production runs through Dec. 10.

“Christmas has always been about wonder, imagination and fun. But this year, it is also about chocolate,” says Bo White, who will be playing Grandpa Joe in The Everett Theatre’s upcoming production of “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.”

Based on Roald Dahl’s beloved book, the show follows the story of candymaker Willy Wonka’s quest to find a suitable successor for his candy empire. Charlie Bucket and several other children find themselves invited to tour Willy Wonka’s factory to see if they fit the bill.

As the tour progresses, the faults of each child (and his or her parents) are revealed, until we find only one child remaining—perhaps the one who expected least to win the prize.

The show has a lot to teach children of all ages in the audience.

“Wonka is seeking a child—and, by extension, a family—of good character,” says Terence Gilheany (Grandpa George). “He values self-restraint, good manners, humility, interest in learning and, ultimately, honesty.”

The show, says Gilheany, “speaks to moving beyond materialism to find true happiness”—a message that aligns perfectly with the holiday season.

The production runs through Dec. 10. For times, ticket prices and more information, go to www.everetttheatre.com.
