The Big List

The Big List

Welcome to Delaware Today’s arts blog, the spot to dish on the many cultural opportunities available to Delaware audiences. We’ll cover as many genres as possible, and note great events offered by organizations large and small, in all three counties.

It's Tradition

Most arts venues are producing traditional holiday shows this weekend. Expect to see variations of the same show or the same premise. That’s a good thing. Traditions keep us grounded.

The most helpful way to share with you the many events happening this week is to provide a simple list that’s geographically spread out. That way, you’re apt to find a show nearby. This information came from the Delaware Today calendar, compiled by Web content administrator and all-around data guru, Katie McCabe. If you’d like to check out myriad other events, visit delawaretoday.com.

And if you are looking for a wonderful theatrical event for younger children, then don’t miss Bootless Artworks’ presentation of THE VELVETEEN RABBIT, A PUPPET MUSICAL. This premier adaptation by Australian composer Simon Chan is a wonderful version of the classic children's story. Filled with beautiful, lush orchestration, and staged as an interactive PUPPET MUSICAL this telling exquisitely takes the audience on Velveteen’s journey from an ordinary toy rabbit stuffed with sawdust to a real rabbit filled with love. Run time is 50 minutes (great for small children). DECEMBER 11 @ 7:30pm / DECEMBER 12 @ 12:30pm & 7:30pm VISIT WWW.BOOTLESS.ORG

CTC's production of "Sweeney"---recently hailed as a 'revolting good time' by News Journal critic Tom Butler---is the perfect option if you're seeking to break away from more traditional holiday fare! The punk-inspired staging and costuming gives a classic CTC twist to Sondheim's well-known piece. Expect another intimate CTC experience with the actors moving round about and throughout the audience!
