Celebrate Shakespeare's Canon at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand

To commemorate the 454rd anniversary of the famous writer’s birth, Delaware Shakespeare is hosting a Bard-filled lunchtime event on Saturday, April 21.

To celebrate the 454rd anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth, Delaware Shakespeare will assemble dozens of Sussex County volunteers to perform snippets from every play in the Shakespearean canon over the course of one Bard-filled lunchtime event on April 21 at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. Many familiar faces—elected officials, students, faith leaders, chefs, business owners, librarians, journalists and more—will form an amazing cast of characters in tackling scenes, dialogues, monologues and more from each of the Bard’s 38 surviving plays. These will include early works such as “The Two Gentlemen of Verona,” later pieces like “The Two Noble Kinsmen” and all of those “Henrys.”

“Our first Shakespeare Day took place in front of The Grand Opera House; the second on The Green in Dover,” says David Stradley, producing artistic director of Delaware Shakespeare. “It’s fitting that we complete this very Delaware cycle by paying homage to The Bard at this iconic bandstand, in the heart of Delaware’s biggest beach community.”

The event will begin at 1 p.m. and should last 45–60 minutes.
