Over the Top

Over the Top

This picture is a shot from my camera phone of The World—a luxury cruise boat that travels the globe over the course of a year. The World passed by on a beautiful fall afternoon, and we were reminded of what a special location we have found here on the C&D Canal for our EverLife Design model home.

We decided to use Corian countertops for our bathroom sinks and master bedroom tub surround for the EverLife Design home. Corian is manufactured by DuPont, and has many positive attributes, including its durability and the fact that it is Greenguard Indoor Air Quality certified. Our countertop and tub surround installer is Jerry Potts, doing business as Jerry Potts Inc.

One particular line of Corian, the Terra Collection, is certified by Scientific Certification Systems as containing pre-consumer recycled content and contributes towards our LEED points. The countertop and tub surround for our master suite is a product chosen from the Corian Terra line.

The tub surround had to be installed in two pieces. Here, Jerry blends the seam to perfect the finish, which became invisible upon completion.

Jerry does custom countertops and kitchen installations and is Corian certified. We have used Jerry for all of our construction projects and think he does a great job. Here, Jerry is closely supervised by his father, Gerald Potts, who helps out on certain jobs.

This is the finished countertop for the main bath. To meet our requirements for EverLife Design, the sinks were made accessible by being open below. Note how accessible design does not need to be institutional looking or boring.

The finished master bedroom sinks, again, custom installed to be accessible.

Our master bathroom tub and surround. Most tubs have either steps to climb to get into the tub (which just looks dangerous), or a narrow ledge that you have to crawl over to get in and out of the tub. In order to be accessible, we designed the tub surround to be larger than usual so that you could sit on the edge of the tub, swing your legs over and into the tub, and lower yourself into the tub. We have really liked this design and find it much safer to use.
