Good news: Hockessin has just gotten a lot more colorful.
Thanks to Natalie Ruelle, the charming and energetic makeup artist who has just set up her new shop, MIX Makeup Studio, www.mixmakeupstudio.com, in Shoppes of Hockessin. (It’s located in Sanity’s old spot.)
After having worked in the makeup industry for many years in both L.A. and Chicago, Natalie was inspired to turn her new space into a studio full of old Hollywood glamour and is all set up to do makeup applications for special events, waxing and even the latest trend—eyelash extensions.
But the neatest thing about MIX is that is that its main focus is all about creating custom blended lipstick.
What? There is somewhere to go to get lipstick that is made especially for you?
An expert in her field, Natalie has spent the last three years perfecting how to mix custom colored lipstick or lip gloss.
During a half-hour session, Natalie measures and melts, mashes and mixes, adding a dab more of this color or that color until you have your very own special concoction that you’ve helped create. (In a nutshell, it’s a colorful version of Cold Stone Creamery for your lips.)
After playing with and testing the color, she pours your creation into a mold and out comes your very own, personalized lipstick. It’s so cool!
So that you don’t feel overwhelmed, Natalie just so happens to have worked for Estée Lauder for over 10 years, so you can feel confident that she will help guide you to choose what color is most flattering on you.
Have an old lipstick nub from a favorite color that has been long discontinued? Just can’t seem to find the perfect shade to go with that sweater? At MIX, you can match!

Just had an old Estee Lauder lipstick color matched by Natalie and just loved it!! Not only was the color perfect, I got to choose a flavor and gloss to add to it to make it just mine!! I've been visiting Natalie for almost a year now (since I had a makeover) and she's only gotten better. I've had the custom lipstick made and it's fabulous! I'll never go back to generic colors. Not only is the lipstick great, but so are her other make-up colors. Want to try a new look when it comes to your make-up? Visit Natalie and you'll be thrilled:)
I just picked up a gift certificate for my mom for MIX, and she was thrilled. I may treat myself to a consultation and custom lipcolor after seeing her excitement and especially after trying a sample gloss--the color was charming, flavor delightful and texture comfortable. Can't wait to pop back in.
Natalie: do you do parties at your shop? (I'm sure you can't take your "kitchen" with you.)
I treated myself to a makeup application with Natalie and was having so much fun I had a new lipstick and lipgloss custom made with lip plumper too....yum... 5 STAR treatment all the way. Natalie is the best and I will be back with my girlfriends.
