Why do these things always strike us as seismic? Domaine Hudson is no longer the domain of Tom and Meg Hudson, but new owner Michael Ross, a veterinarian based in Chadds Ford and principal of MWR Group, who will run the restaurant with his wife, Beth. Expect more of what made the place great, plus some personal touches. “Beth and I always appreciated the elegant environment, fine service, great food and magnificent wines at Domaine Hudson,” Ross said in a statement. “We’d been looking for a new challenge, and when the restaurant became available, we jumped at the chance to build on the foundation that Tom and Meg Hudson have created at Domaine Hudson. We know how many people love this restaurant, and we are committed to enhancing its reputation.” Look for an interior makeover, more wines, the addition of fine spirits and more—with the guidance of Tom Hudson. Ross says the changes will begin with a wine dinner on Sept. 22, when Scott Palazzo of Palazzo Wines in Napa will pour and discuss his vintages. Domaine Hudson is at 1314 N. Washington St., Wilmington. The reservation line is 655-WINE. Stay tuned to the changes at domainehudson.com.

A Slice of Heaven

When Food Network Magazine went on a cross-country road trip to discover the best pizza in every state, it found The Saint at Pizza By Elizabeths in Greenville. Look for it and the other 49 winners in the September issue, on sale now. Here’s what the mag said on its Web site: “All of the individual-sized pizzas at this local favorite are named after a famous Elizabeth, like Arden and Taylor. But the best pizza is the Saint Elizabeth, an ode to John the Baptist’s mother: It’s a white pie with lumps of sweet blue crabmeat mixed with an artichoke-Parmesan sauce. The thin crust—white or low-fat honey-wheat—stays crisp and brittle around the edge yet has just the right chewiness.” Check it out for yourself at PBE, 3801 Kennett Pike, Greenville, or pizzabyelizabeths.com.

And Now for Something Completely Different: Pizza—from Italy

Welcome to DiMeo’s Pizzaiuloli Napulitani. “Pizzaiuloli” is a fancy name for pizza makers. Napulitani means they come from Naples. That means authentic Neapolitan pizza—and other great food—on Market Street in Wilmington. Pop Pino DiMeo has opened six pizzerias since moving to the States in 1988. Son Antimo joins him in the new place. Visit it soon at 831 N. Market St., in Wilmington.

On the Subject of Pizza…

…on Market Street, we’re much enamored of Extreme Pizza, the San-Fran based chain that has opened down in LOMA. Yes, Extreme Pizza has great pies such as the Hanoi Fever, with shredded pork marinated in a spicy hoisin-style sauce, mozzarella, peanuts, green onions, jalapeños, carrots and fresh cilantro, and the the Portugese-styled Aveiro with linguica, smoked bacon, pepperoncini, roasted red peppers, tomato sauce, mozzarella and fresh cilantro, as well as traditional pies and low-fat options. But there’s also a menu of delicious subs and “X Factors” such as chicken wings. Check it at 201 S. Market St. 384-8012, or extremepizza.com. There’s a full bar for those who want to eat in.
