Forgotten Mile Ale House is Worth the Wait

Originally set to debut last summer, the long-awaited brewery finally opened its doors in October.

Better later than never. When we talked to Steve Lucey last spring, he was expecting an early summer opening for Forgotten Mile Ale House in Dewey Beach. But the restaurant, named after the eponymous stretch on Coastal Highway between Dewey and Rehoboth Beach, didn’t open until Oct. 23.

Sometimes, rehabs take that long. The site formerly housed Captain’s Table. It was worth the wait. The kitchen focuses on creative New American fare modeled after the cuisine served at Ulysses American Gastropub in Wilmington and Six Paupers Tavern and Restaurant in Hockessin, both owned by Steve and his brother, Mike Lucey.

The menu includes items like a grilled cheese sandwich with braised beef short rib, fish tacos, flatbreads, nibbles like a meatball Parm deconstructed, supper plates and more. “We always loved the area,” Steve says. “My parents bought a house there four years ago.” The Luceys saw the building’s potential for drawing diners of all ages. “There’s nowhere to go,” Steve explains about the area. “Dewey is a party town. Rehoboth can be a parking hassle.” The restaurant also came with a prized amenity: a 60-spot parking lot.
