Rockin' Eats Take the Riverfront to Greater Heights

A vibrant ambiance and creative dishes make the River Rock Kitchen a fresh find.

After 18 years, the Wilmington Riverfront has recently begun to take the shape of the upscale, urban funplex its developers always imagined, one with quite a stable of attractions. The new Westin Hotel might be the most important yet. River Rock Kitchen features an artful, open floor plan and a stark color palette, as well as powerhouse locavore minds David Lattomus and Kristin McGuigan. Both chefs have worked the legendary stoves at the Hotel du Pont’s Green Room, and both know a thing or two about mixing traditional and cerebral styles of cooking to satisfy the city’s demanding palates. The approach mostly works at River Rock. There are swaths of classic Brandywine Valley refinement, and there are the soulful injections and innovations that help elevate less showy ingredients to greater heights. Find out what else dining critic Matt Amis has to say about it in the November issue of Delaware Today.
