Serpe’s Bakery Now Aiming for Summer Reopening

The bakery’s road to recovery continues after a devastating Christmas Eve fire.

It will be a little longer until you can enjoy a treat from Serpe and Sons Bakery again, but staff members maintain that they are determined to make a triumphant return.

A raging fire struck the beloved Wilmington bakery on Christmas Eve and severely damaged its longtime Kirkwood Highway location.

According to its Facebook page, Serpe’s had initially hoped to be back up and running by late spring, but a recent post announced the bakery would be pushing its targeted reopening time back.

“UPDATE: We are extending our re-opening date to late summer. We still do not have a date set, but we are working on many positive changes to Serpe’s Bakery. Thank you so much for your love prayers and support. Stay tuned!” the post reads.

Complicating matters has been personal tragedy within the Serpe family. In late April, the family announced the passing of Jennifer Serpe, the wife of co-owner Richard Serpe.
